Motorized Windows: Automatic Temperature Sensing: Introduction

temperature sensitive windows can be opened automatically by a phone app when a room gets hot This article is an introduction to using an Android or IOS phone app to create a temperature sensitive window monitoring system.

This system uses the same radio remote control system as our RollerTrol™ roller shades, and it can also be used to control many other devices. You won't get stuck with a special purpose remote that does not work for anything else!

It uses the BroadLink® HA-RFIRW-5V RF-IR blaster automation hub and a companion product, the ES-WIFI-5V e-Air environmental sensing module. The e-Air environmental sensor can monitor VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) temperature, air quality, humidity, sound level, and light level.

It also has IFTTT event capabilities (if-this-then-that) which can trigger the automation hub to activate our window opener/skylight motors, blind motors, smart film, drapery motors, and many other devices, such as fans and LED lights.

In this article we will be discussing the temperature monitoring capability of the sensor, and how it can control the operation of a window opener motor. You'll also learn how your phone can be used as a remote control for your window openers (and many other devices).

The environmental sensor can trigger the closure of multiple window motors (and our roller shades), and there are 3 main components to this system:
